A Note From Maeve Connors
Over the years I have a few different considerations for careers, from fashion designer to chef, but one I have always come back to is community and social media management. It has been a constant in my life for over a decade.
I have joined so many unfriendly communities in my life that have immediate distaste for you if you're not the stereotypical straight white male gamer. Many of these communities you can't be honest about who or what you are, for fear of bullying or being ostracized. Communities where people who had bullied me became staff members themselves, but I would be overlooked for those same positions because I didn't fit the mold of the "typical gamer".
Many staff members in gaming communities have no respect for the users within them. There are even those who focus on using their power to abuse the users, users who trust staff to protect them. My passion lies in trying to challenge this typical gaming community mindset to grow spaces that are inclusive to all. Spaces where you fit in, no matter who you are.
